FAQ’s

The Coalition for Kids began as a group of parents, educators and community members dedicated to changing the outlook of Charleston County Schools. It was formed to support strong leaders to join the Charleston School Board and advance an innovative agenda for change that improves educational outcomes for all students.

The Coalition believes in four pillars that direct our programming initiatives and electoral strategy:

• Back to Basics – Advance measurable growth in foundational skills to position students with the basics for academic success.
• Educational Opportunity – Create opportunities for all Charleston kids to receive an exceptional education, regardless of their zip code.
• Leadership and Talent – Invest in principals, teachers, and school system leaders to attract, develop, and retain high quality educators.
• Inspiration and Advocacy – Connect, inspire, and inform the community on promising ideas to ensure every child’s success.

From children who lack equal access to high-quality education…to the mom running for school board to serve her community…to the business leader in search of information on successful educational ecosystems…the Coalition takes its name seriously and strives to serve as the group to spark real and lasting change in our school district – to improve our schools and bring more opportunities to students.

The Coalition will continue to highlight the importance of school board elections in 2024 and beyond. We believe that qualified and visionary leaders who will implement innovative solutions are vital to improving the Charleston County public school system. These leaders should exemplify our four pillars to advance educational outcomes to ensure every student has access to the quality education they deserve.
